School Health Screening

From Your School Nurse

As part of the eight components of School Health, School Nurses conduct periodic vision, dental, hearing, blood pressure, and other screenings as recommended by SC DHEC, and as needed as part of the nurse's assessment during a health room visit. These screenings are important in early detection of hearing or vision difficulties that may impact teaching and learning. Many times a student is not even aware he/she is having difficulty seeing the board, reading, or hearing classroom instructions.

The Students at Forest Lake Elementary are currently being screened for the 2016-2017 year. Please contact Martha Becht, RN, your school nurse, if you have a question or a concern regarding your child's results, or if you need assistance taking your child to the eye doctor or dentist. Our goal is to work in collaboration with parents, teachers and children to help children stay healthy so they can learn.

Commercial Crew Contest

Here's an opportunity for
our young artist to shine.

Commercial Crew
2017 Calendar Artwork
Contest

Nov. 30 is deadline for contest entries!
Credits: NASA
NASA’s Commercial Crew Program is holding an artwork contest through November 30 for children  4 to 12 years old. The artwork will be used to create a 2017 calendar, which has a different space-related theme for each month. The themes educate students about the International Space Station, astronauts, growing food in space and more! Unique and original artwork will be selected for each month. Once the calendar is complete, it will be transmitted to astronauts aboard the  space station. The calendar also will include supplemental education materials for kids here on Earth to learn more about the space-related themes.
Go to http://go.nasa.gov/2fvRLNf
for more information about the competition’s themes, rules and deadlines plus the entry form.
Get your parent's permission, of course!
Email your entry form and drawing to us at: ksc-connect2ccp@mail.nasa.gov
