Technology News from Fourth Grade
Mrs. McKinney’s 4th graders have been busy getting to know their Chromebooks. This week they got to work collaboratively on a math extension project. As they were working on place value: comparing and ordering numbers, they used the Chromebooks to locate lakes in South Carolina. They chose three lakes, wrote down the name, the size of the lake in acres, and the location. Next, Mrs. McKinney assigned them to small groups of four students. They opened their SC Lakes Google document and chatted with their group to put their lakes in order according to size in real time. Mrs. McKinney monitored and chatted with groups to help answer questions from her Chromebook. The documents were then displayed on the SMARTboard for the class to see. The class is enjoying the opportunity to work collaboratively through the use of technology.

Lake Jocassee has 7,500 acres and located at Laurel Fork Falls. Dr. Matthew
Lake Santee Size is 10,000 acres and located in SC. Matthew
Lake Greenwood is in midlands of SC and has 11,400 acres. It’s on the Saluda and Reedy rivers. It’s also in Greenwood, Laurens and Newberry counties. (James)
Lake Wateree is 13,700 located by Duke Energy
Lake Keowee is 18,500 acres in the Blue Ridge between Lake Jocassee and Lake Hartwell. (James)
Lake Hartwell is 56,000 acres,between SC and Georgia by Clemson. It is at the bottom of Lake Jocassee and Lake Keowee. (James)
Lake Thurmond-70,000 ,between SC and Georgia. Lake Murray- 50,000,midlands.hayley and sophia
Lake Russell is one of three lakes on the Savannah River between South Carolina and Georgia. Russell is on the Savannah River between two other Army Corps lakes: Lake Hartwell and Lake Thurmond. Matthew
